On April 25 at 6:00pm, a meeting soliciting public comment on improvements to Perrymont Park was held in the Perrymont Elementary School Gymnasium. The park does contain some mature trees that will be preserved as much as possible. Improvements are partially funded by grants from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and the Virginia Dept. of Conservation & Recreation’s Recreational Trails Program. Attendees can review the proposed concepts, hear more about the project and its timeline, and ask questions.

The proposed site improvements for Perrymont Park:

  • 8’ wide paved ADA accessible trail loop (Panther Path)
  • New sidewalk from Perrymont Avenue to the park interior, with entrance features
  • New outdoor classroom area with a greenhouse for use by students of Perrymont Elementary
  • Picnic area
  • Woods walk to the athletic fields behind the school
  • Improvements and additions to the existing nature trail thru the wooded area (part of Creekside Trail and will connect to Greenwood Drive/Sandusky)
  • Interpretive and informational signage
  • Additional landscaping and protection of mature trees
  • Drainage improvements

Future improvements include a new dog park behind the cell tower and ball field, sufficiently buffered from the neighborhood, and a new bus loop.
